We have collected the most frequently asked questions from our customers to dispel your doubts about durability, the application process and the possibility of personalizing the weapon.
Cerakote is a polymer-ceramic composite coating that provides incomparably higher protection than traditional finishing methods. Unlike oxidizing, which offers minimal corrosion protection, or anodizing, which is an electrochemical process, Cerakote creates a physical barrier. It is much more resistant to abrasion, impacts, corrosion (over 2,000 hours in a salt spray chamber) and chemicals (solvents, greases).
A properly applied Cerakote (H Series) coating is only 0.001 inch (approximately 25 microns) thick. This layer is thin enough not to interfere with most mechanisms, yet thick enough to provide protection. Yes. Cerakote H series (thermally hardened) is ideal for metals (steel, aluminum, titanium) and temperature-resistant polymers. For materials sensitive to high temperatures, such as wood, optical scopes or delicate composites, we use a different oven temperature range or Cerakote C series (air-cured), which offers the same strength without the need to heat in an oven.
Cerakote is the hardest thin-film coating available on the market, but it is not indestructible. It is extremely resistant to abrasion (e.g. from a holster) and chipping. However, like any material, when in contact with a sharp, harder object (e.g. concrete, diamond) and using great force, it may be scratched. Under normal conditions of tactical and sports use, the coating will last for years.
One of the benefits of Cerakote is easy cleaning. The coating has hydrophobic properties and is very smooth, so carbon deposits do not stick as strongly as to bare metal. To clean, all you need is a regular cloth and standard weapon cleaning products. You don't have to oil the external surfaces so much, because the coating itself protects against corrosion.
Professional application is a multi-stage process: complete disassembly of the weapon, chemical degreasing, sandblasting, re-degreasing (gas out), painting and curing in an oven. Due to our optimized processes, The standard delivery time is currently 3 to 7 business days.
The standard H Series withstands temperatures up to approximately 260°C, which is sufficient for most weapon components. For extreme applications (silencers, machine gun barrels, exhaust manifolds), we use Cerakote from the high-temperature series (Glacier / C-Series), which withstands temperatures of 800°C - 1000°C and does not discolor under the influence of heat.
We only use original, ready-made colors from the official palette of the manufacturer Cerakote i we don't mix them togetherto guarantee repeatability and durability. Yes, sandblasting is an absolutely critical step. It creates a surface "profile" thanks to which the coating mechanically anchors itself in the metal. Without this, Cerakote would not have achieved its legendary durability. We use specialized abrasive, which is selected to ensure perfect adhesion of the coating, while remaining safe for the geometry of the weapon, engravings and serial numbers.
The price reflects the time consumption and precision of the process. We spend most of our time (approx. 80%) preparing the surface: dismantling, cleaning, precisely masking places that cannot be painted. Painting itself is only the finale. You are paying for the certainty that the weapon will work reliably after assembly and that the coating will not come off after a month of use.
